"Green Carpet" World Premiere party packs Cobb Energy Center for Seven Days in Utopia Movie.

Review by Jess Stainbrook

ATLANTA, GA - Actors Robert Duvall and Lucas Black joined PGA professional tour golfers K.J. Choi, Rickie Fowler, Stewart Cink and Rich Beem, on the "green carpet," sticking with the golf theme for the world premiere showing of Seven Days in Utopia, the movie based on the inspirational novel “Golf’s Sacred Journey” by Dr. David Cook. The gala event scheduled around the PGA’s US Open brought over 1200 people. Other celebrities on hand for the premiere included Mac Powell, lead singer for the Christian band Third Day, whose song “Born Again” is featured in the movie, Warren Dunn, former NFL running back for the Atlanta Falcons, and Golf Channel hosts Brandel Chamblee and Kelly Tilghman, also featured in the movie as themselves.

After the usual paparazzi gathering and media interviews around the arriving stars, guests moved into a packed Cobb theater listening to a brief presentation by host Dennis Rice, former marketing exec for Miramax, Disney and United Artists, introducing the project and then author and sports psychologist Dr. David Cook. Dr. Cook gave a little history of the project and then introduced the many people involved in making the movie a reality. Dr. Cook praised first time director Matthew Dean Russell, saying that he felt Russell could be the next Spielberg and giving him credit for his creative talents and attention to detail making the golf scenes true to form.

Once the lights went down, the atmosphere was electric with people clapping and cheering for the many production names as they rolled in the opening credits. Throughout the movie, people laughed out loud, chuckled and even shed a few tears. As many said out loud, this is not a golf movie, it’s a movie about life. It just happens to have golf in it! And as you watch the real PGA golf pros hitting it right there with the actors, this is possibly the best presentation of golf in a feature film…..ever!

Lucas Black as a real-life scratch golfer brought amazing authenticity to the golf scenes and the fact that he hails from the south gives his performance great credibility. And Academy Award winner Robert Duvall, although not a golfer, did what he does best and acted the part of former golf pro and mentor beyond compare. While the golf story is prevalent in the book, the movie version with the addition of a love interest in the small town of Utopia played by Deborah Ann Woll and a few local cowboys that give Luke a hard time, make for an entertaining yet meaningful experience for everyone from families, kids, parents, golfers and cowboys.

The background score is seamless, produced by composer Klaus Badelt of Pirates of the Caribbean fame. Klaus specific wove music into the score that included Third Day’s “Born Again” song that is a major theme toward the end of the movie as Luke comes to his senses about what is really important in life (spoiler – it’s NOT golf!).

This is one of those rare instances where the movie could actually be better than the book, or at least different in a good way for attracting a larger audience. The book has a big following with golfing aficionados and pros alike without the typical commercial writing/selling techniques of summer romance novelists. What the movie does is add depth to the story by inviting everyone, through the interaction between Johnny (Robert Duvall) and Luke (Lucas Black) to experience the pieces of life that make us who we are and how we choose to get there. This movie brings us the truth through Johnny’s wisdom of “See it, feel it, trust it.” And isn’t that really what we’d all like to know how to do in our time left here on earth? Seven Days in Utopia is definitely a “Two Thumbs Up!”

1615.tv Creative Director Jess Stainbrook on set for HEAVEN IS FOR REAL shoot with host Natalie Tysdal and Burpo family.
1615.tv creates Heaven is For Real
curriculum for Thomas Nelson Publishing
Denver, CO - Todd Burpo, author of Heaven is For Real, came to Denver, Colorado with his wife Sonja and son Colton to shoot the new DVD curriculum for Thomas Nelson Publishing. The book, a NY Times bestseller with over 2 million copies in print, is about Colton Burpo's journey to heaven during an emergency appendectomy and his subsequent return to his family.  Jess Stainbrook, Creative Director with 1615.tv, a non-profit that specializes in faith-based content for broadcast TV received a call from friend and Fox morning show anchor Natalie Tysdal telling him of the powerful story she had done back in February on the Burpo family. Stainbrook contacted Thomas Nelson and came up with the creative concept for the DVD curriculum that Thomas Nelson desired for the upcoming book release. The DVD features the Burpos family in a "heavenly" white limbo atmosphere talking about their experience together from hearing Colton's story of visiting heaven. Tysdal hosted the Q&A time with the Burpo family and Frank Bokoski, also with 1615.tv, was the production manager and editor for all the segments in the DVD series.

Heaven is for Real is available wherever books are sold and Thomas Nelson will be releasing the DVD curriculum in the late summer of 2011.  For more information, go to Thomas Nelson

The Story

Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.

Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us.

Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.

Chuck Black's Kingdom Series of Books
one step closer to feature films
WIlliston, ND - Chuck Black, author of the popular Kingdom Series of books and Colorado Filmmaker Jess Stainbrook announced a partnership to produce the stories into feature films.  "Over the past few years there has been tremendous interest in seeing the Kingdom Series come to the big screen," says Black.  "I am excited to announce that we are beginning that journey."
In the summer of 2010, Executive Producer Jess Stainbrook met Chuck Black at a homeschooling conference in Denver.  "I read Chuck's series and was immediately captivated by the stories," says Stainbrook. "The imagery, the interaction - I could see the movie in my head with every page I read. I think this could be the next big trilogy movie series like Narnia or Lord of the Rings!"
Chuck first wrote Kingdom’s Edge to inspire his  children to read the Bible with renewed zeal. This captivating, expanded parable led him to write the Old Testament allegories, Kingdom’s Dawn and Kingdom’s Hope. Chuck added three more titles to the series; Kingdom’s Call, Kingdom’s Quest, and Kingdom’s Reign which were released in May of 2007.  Chuck’s current works include The Knights of Arrethtrae series.

Chuck is a former F-16 fighter pilot and currently works as an engineer for a firm designing plastic consumer products. He has a degree in electrical and electronic engineering and served eight years in the United States Air Force. Chuck and his wife have six children.

It is Chuck’s desire to serve the Lord through his work and to inspire people of all ages to study the scriptures in order to discover the hope and love of a truly majestic King and His Son.  Jess Stainbrook will be helping Chuck do that through the movies!

Children's Home in East Africa asks Colorado Filmmaker to tell story of beginnings

Iganga, Uganda - Musana Children's Home has asked Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker Jess Stainbrook to help them tell the story of their foundation and growth.  Stainbrook traveled in July 2010 with still photographer Daniel Treat to start the process of gathering footage for the program in Iganga, Uganda.
"The story is an amazing testimony of acting upon God's will for your life," says Stainbrook.  In 2008, three University of Colorado students traveled to Uganda to serve with NGO's for the summer and from that trip created an orphanage and school that impacts the lives of the entire community and villagers in that area.
Jess' experience of shooting in Uganda previously with Hope Alive the summer of 2008 helped tremendously for preparing for this shoot. "I knew pretty much what to expect, with Malaria dangers and heat, so our film team was ready to shoot as soon as we landed in Entebbe."  The crew was on the ground for 7 days shooting at a hectic pace to bring back everything they needed for the programs.   "We shot over 11,000 images and 700 minutes of HD footage." says Stainbrook.  The programs will air in the fall of 2010.

Southeast Christian Spots
to Play in Local Movie Theaters
Parker, CO - Southeast Christian Church wanted to get the message out that "church is different than you think."   Their media team asked Colorado Filmmaker Jess Stainbrook to help them create the spots that will play in local theaters before the movies begin.
The first spot looks a lot like a rock concert with snippets from their NOW (Night of Worship) concerts with footage of people and kids doing other fun things and being together at church. "It was a lot of fun documenting all of these events at the church and seeing how many cool things are happening at SE these days," says Stainbrook about producing and shooting the spots.  "There certainly are a lot of things going on that don't line up with your traditional thoughts of old-school church services. It's really awesome!"  Southeast is located near Jordan and Lincoln in Parker, Colorado and they have Saturday services at 4pm and Sunday services at 9 & 11am. Their website is www.sechristian.org
The theater promo project was shot over the course of two months using a Panasonic HD camera in the 720/24p format and edited digitally on AVID Media Composer.  The spots begin playing in theaters starting October 1, 2010.
Utopia Movie Behind the Scenes!
